From the RightWing Irony Dept.

Man, this is funny.
Can I criticize a blog ad?

“When Clinton Lied, Nobody Died.”

That’s what the blog ad over yonder for The Progressive Mind reads.

Well, I guess it’s true. Sort of. Depends on what the meaning of “nobody” and “died” is. If “nobody” means “U.S. troops” I guess it’s true, sort of...

I guess we did lose a few men in Somalia. But that was over 10 years ago, and the left has no sense of history.

One has to wonder about the "sense of history" of rightwing dipshits, too, since they keep forgetting that Bush Senior is the one who sent troops to Somalia.

Thanks, ColdFury, for the giggle.

Well, sure, but the troops didn't die when Bush pere was president, did they? I mean, they died when the secretary of defense made a bad decision, didn't they?

Do you think that no one remembers?

Look. Somalia was Bush pere's fuck-up and there's no way you can argue differently. You fucking dipshits want to blame every Bush stumble on some imagined Clinton failure of the past, but can't accept that starting a mini-war days before you leave office and handing it off to an incoming president might, possibly be setting someone up for failure?

Here's the real lesson, Anonymouse: Les Aspin resigned over this! Can you imagine? A man in power taking responsibility? And that was for the death of 18 soldiers in what, from a strictly military standpoint, a success. How many dead soldiers will it take before the Bushies resign for their part in this Iraqi clusterfuck?

Bartkid sez,
Uh, what was Clinton's lie about Somalia?

Good catch, Bartkid.

Well, Clinton said that Les Aspin left the defense department for personal reasons. That's a lie, isn't it? I mean, Aspin was fired for his incompetence--which incompetence lead to the deaths of US soldiers--wasn't he?

Of course, Clinton did tell some truths. He said a hasty withdrawal from Somalia would "send a message to terrorists and other potential adversaries around the world that they can change our policies by killing our people." He said that right before ordering a hasty withdrawal. He was never more right.

...and Bush said we should set a timetable in Kosovo.

Can we just drop the Bush said/Clinton said bullshit? I was making a point that ColdFury was being unintentionally ironic. Period.

Now, let's deal with today's war, shall we?
