Where were you when New Orleans was drowning?

Glenn Greenwald seems bemused that rightwing icons like David Horowitz and Michelle Malkin can't get it through their thick skulls that Rumsfeld and Cheney authorized a story on their vacation homes--that it wasn't some sort of plot to alert terrorists to their presence.

The Secret Service has said this is nothing and it's been covered again and again and again.

I think the nutjobs are shooting themselves in the foot. Do they really want to keep this in the public eye? Do they really want to bring national attention to an insignificant Weekend Travel section story? Someone's going to Google like I did and find out that Cheney closed on his house in early September of last year. So while the rest of us were focused on an American tragedy, the Cheneys were measuring for drapes in their new, $2.9 million vacation home.

Cheney keeps insisting on a "no fly zone" over every house he owns, so that shows up on the aerial navigation charts issued by the FAA.

If these guys wanted to stay hidden it's possible but it messes up your taxes. They could do this through a corporation easily, but it would be more expensive.

They obviously don't feel threatened.

As well, if Al Qaeda's armed terrorists can get anywhere within 10 miles of their homes, it suggests somebody's security is at fault: ours.

Which can't be blamed on reporters, but can be blamed on the electeds residing in those homes.
