Just because it was performed on a wide scale, and in a good cause, with vast historical precedent does not, in itself, mean that conscription is morally justified. I'm deeply wary of a the assertion that the state has the right to force its citizens to fight, kill, die, obey. This seems a deeply illiberal notion.
