More troops for what?

Here's my question about the McCain plan for more troops in Iraq Lieberman has now endorsed.
What do those troops do?
Think of it this way: A company is losing profit against its competitors. No one can figure out why. If, in a well-run company, some advisor came in and said "Let's hire more people" without explaining exactly where those people would work and what they would do, the advisor would be booted out of the boss's office.

So far, it seems to me that McCain (and his enablers) keep saying "more troops! more troops!" without explaining the mission of the added troops. All they are truly calling for is more of the same.

Would someone in the press please ask the question above?

Why, it's obvious, isn't it. They go in and stay the course, until the job is done.

What do you mean that's not a plan?

Doesn't look like they're doing anything useful over that, except getting themselves killed for a leader who doesn't give a damn about lives lost in vain.

I hope they wouldn't really send more troops over. They'd just be adding to a losing position. Loss = loss of human lives.

The "surge" if that's it is going to be called, isn't about achieving anything concrete. It's about demonstrating that the US hasn't lost yet. When you're in a big poker game and down 200 grand, if you can still play by mortgaging your house, you still haven't lost. Getting up from the poker table and paying up would be. McCain, Lieberman, Bush would rather send more people to die than admit that they were complicit in making it a disaster in the first place. It's part narcissism and part fearing the actual consequences of betting the farm and losing.

Surging more troops will take several months - let's be charitable and say they're all in place by 5/07. They'll fumpfel around, win a few, lose a few, and before you know it, it'll be summer, 2008, the campaign season, and it would be "political" to make serious changes then, thus leaving the flaming bag on the front doorstep for someone else to stamp out, and that person can then be blamed for the fertilizer inside the bag.
