After all the bullshit from right wing bloggers, we get this:
The Interior Ministry acknowledged Thursday that an Iraqi police officer whose existence had been denied by the Iraqis and the U.S. military is in fact an active member of the force, and said he now faces arrest for speaking to the media.

Ministry spokesman Brig. Abdul-Karim Khalaf, who had previously denied there was any such police employee as Capt. Jamil Hussein, said in an interview that Hussein is an officer assigned to the Khadra police station, as had been reported by The Associated Press.
This should explain, even to the idiots, why Hussein didn't "come forward to clear his name," pretty nicely, doesn't it? It also explains why he quit talking once you started pushing this clearly stupid issue.

As I wrote before:
It is strange that the AP doesn't seem interested in dragging out an Iraqi source and shouting, "Dance, monkey!" while all their bureau reporters and staff circle up and clap rhythmically. I'm sure Hussein would then be welcome on many national television shows and, afterward, he could go home with some lovely green room gift baskets and a big target to stick on his family.
I expect you not only to send apologies but checks, people.

And, by the way, aren't you glad we've helped create a "democracy" in which people get arrested for talking to the media? Freedom, apparently, smells a lot like tyranny...

Update: There's more from Greg Sargent and Crooks and Liars, but the key issue is this: For a group of assholes who continue to crow about their glorious "victory" in the Dan Rather scandal, this is their moment to skulk away and keep their stupid mouths shut for a while. As a wise man a noted scholar one of those very assholes once said:
The check on blogs is other blogs. Because blogs operate in a reputation-based environment, nobody minds a bias. But they expect you to be honest about your facts. And if you get a reputation for not being honest about your facts, people pay lots of attention to you.
So true. And, even if you actually thought you were being honest but are, in the end, simply proven to be stupid...Well, the same thing happens, pretty much.

Update: Of course, if you thought that there's a single right wing blogger who still has the capacity for shame you haven't been paying attention.

Not sure if everyone has seen these videos of the US military in Iraq or not, but they are pretty amazing: Hopefully our 'surge' will not include too many of these types...
