Finally, someone calls Bill O'Reilly out for acting like a brownshirt

And, God almighty, it's Geraldo Rivera.
RIVERA: We have lured (immigrants) to this country with the promise of jobs, in a country with basically full domestic employment. We have for decades lured them here and now we're starting a mob scene. You're gonna have--Your gonna--You want your viewers to go knocking on people's door, door-to-door? "Are you and illegal? Are you an illegal? I'm gonna take you outside and do something to you." History has seen what happens when you single out people like that.
Truly a powerful, heartfelt argument by Geraldo.

I almost feel bad my unit once "lost" Geraldo for a few hours in Afghanistan (a story for another time).

I make a point of not watching O'Reilly -- life is too short, you know.

What struck me (once more) upon viewing this clip is that O'Reilly is a thug, pure and simple. The finger pointing, the shouted interruptions, not letting his victim complete a coherent thought, the mindless repetition of his talking point -- he's an insecure bully, and it shows in so many ways.

Meanwhile, Terry, just how does a unit of the US Army go about "losing" a major reporter in Afghanistan? Enquiring minds want to know!

Well, he was "lost" in the sense that the people (us) who were supposed to know where he was didn't. The situation was made worse when one of my supervisors got a call from a major who said, "We've lost Geraldo" and said supervisor--a funny, smart senior enlisted sergeant--responded by bursting into uproarious laughter.

Hey Nitpicker,

A little off topic, but I was a PA NCO for many years and took note of the fact that pretty much anyone serving as a PAO above the rank of captain was apparently insane.

Any thoughts on that?

I met a couple who weren't, but I think that's a pretty accurate assessment. Part of the problem is the Army doesn't have a branch for PA types, so it doesn't attract the same level of professionalism you see in the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force.

Although, if you happen to be a former member of a particular unit out of Texas, then you know that there was more than a suggestion of insanity on at least one field grade PAO's part.

Leave it to O'Reilly to make Geraldo look normal.

Hey NP,

Not out of Texas, but I did have the experience of a PAO Major being taken away by the black helicopters after becoming so batshit in Hungary that even the other field grades took notice. So did they retire him or put him someplace where he could get the help that he needed? Of course not.. they made him CO of a signal BN in Germany.

I found the truly psychotic one's to be the bird colonels.

I agree totally about the lack of a PA branch.. that's the big problem. It's a non-command assignment that nobody wants.. so who gets it?

Almost forgot... the PAO Bird colonel in Panama who decided to edit all the print stories himself. He would rewrite them if he felt like it and even change quotes. When questioned about this practice he responded with "If I say he said it, then he said it."
